A few weeks ago, one of Medland Dental’s Oral Health Therapists, Eliza Burroughs, had the opportunity to volunteer at Homeless Connect held at the RNA showgrounds.
Homeless Connect is a one day event that allows businesses, health care organisations and community groups to come together and offer free services to the homeless or those at risk.
Eliza became aware of Homeless Connect as a committee member of The Dental Hygienist Association of Australia Queensland branch (DHAAQ). Homeless Connect has helped more than 12,000 people since Brisbane City Council held the first Homeless Connect in Australia in November 2006.
Together with Oral B, the DHAAQ provided homeless members at the event with free samples of toothbrushes and toothpaste and offered Oral Hygiene advice and information. There was a great response from the attendees and Eliza is looking forward to volunteering again next year.
