What to expect when you visit

your first appointment

Many of our new patients find their first appointment at Medland Dental to be very different to other dental experiences.

When you arrive at Medland Dental, our friendly Front Office Coordinators will welcome you with a warm smile and complimentary refreshments. After showing you through the facilities we invite you to complete your medical and dental history in the comfort of one of our patient lounges.

Your dentist takes time to understand your concerns, previous dental history and current dental status. Your options, how they may differ and everything that you should know about these options before making a decision are then carefully explained. You will be cared for as an individual and experience personalised, comprehensive care that is of the highest quality in a gentle and supportive environment.

Fear-free dentistry: Nitrous oxide and other aids (all complimentary) are available to help alleviate any anxiety you may have and ensure your dental treatment is a comfortable and pleasant experience.

iPads and movies: Stay entertained while you wait for your appointment or relax in the lounge afterwards.

iPods: Select from a wide choice of music to listen to during your dental appointment.

Private lounges with free Wi-Fi: If you need to conduct work whilst in the building or just need some peace and quiet, you can enjoy the comfort of our private lounges.

Children: We care for children of all ages and make sure they look forward to a trip to the dentist offering a gentle approach, fun experiences as well as toys, books, iPads and Netflix.

After hours appointments: We like to make life as easy as possible, that’s why we offer Tuesday evening and Saturday morning appointments (subject to availability) to accommodate your busy work and family schedules.

Courtesy car: Should you require transport home or to work after your appointment, our courtesy car is at your service.*

*Please note Courtesy Car is available from 8.00am to 4.00pm within a 15-minute radius. Courtesy Car subject to availability and does not operate on Saturday or over the Christmas and New Year period.

SMS appointment reminders: As a courtesy we send an SMS reminder two weeks before your confirmed booking and again the day prior to your appointment time. You need only respond to the first message.

Our SMS system only reads acknowledgements of the appointment reminder, and can’t read other responses so please call us if you have any questions about your appointment or would like to look at rescheduling options.

Running behind schedule: At Medland Dental we do endeavour to always book appointment times appropriate for the treatment and to meet your individual needs. However, sometimes things do happen that lead to our dentists running behind schedule. If your dentist is running behind, we will send you an SMS message or call to advise of the anticipated length of time of the delay. We understand that your time is important too, and do not wish to inconvenience you further.

Similarly, we respectfully request an on time arrival for your scheduled appointment. We understand that events can occur outside your control that may lead you to arrive late for a scheduled appointment. Please contact us should you anticipate not arriving on time and we can discuss options with you for the reduced appointment time. We never want to risk compromising the quality of your care, so these options may include, reducing the amount of treatment planned, or rebooking.

Priority list appointments: As a very busy practice the Dentists and Hygienists at Medland Dental are often booked quite heavily in advance, leading to limited appointment availability. We maintain a priority list should you have not been able to secure your preferred appointment, or should your appointment be booked further in advance than is ideal. You will be contacted via SMS or by phone should a suitable time become available.

Advance bookings: As our appointment schedule does get very busy, most of our patients like to pre-book their six-month active maintenance appointment (exam and professional clean) so as to secure their preferred appointment day and time. We will remind you of this appointment two weeks in advance.

Treatment estimates: Our Dentists and Hygienists will alway provide you with a written treatment details and estimates for treatment. Should you have any additional questions about your treatment once you get home please contact us and we will be happy to discuss, or login into our patient portal for further written information and videos.

Deposits: We ask for a $75 deposit to secure your first appointment at Medland Dental. This deposit is credited to your account and deducted from your first invoice.

Should you require treatment that involves laboratory work e.g. crowns, night splints, a deposit equal to one third of your estimated treatment fee is taken to secure your booking. Once again, this deposit is then credited to your account.

Cancellation policy: We respectfully request that you provide 48 hours notice should you need to reschedule or cancel your appointment time. If less than 48 hours notice is provided, this may lead to forfeiture of any deposits in place to secure your appointment.
